Motivational Meditation Monday: Keep Calm and Listen

Sharethis Watershed

“I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening.” – Larry King

Learn To Listen, Listen To Learn

It’s true that we learn most our lessons from our experiences, but if we never take the time to actually listen as we either go through or after our experience, we may actually miss the lesson.

Ever hear the phrase “those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat it?”

There is a reason so many people have this same experience. We are doomed to repeat our mistakes if we A. do not listen to those who have already gone through the experience and B. do not learn from our experiences. This isn’t a theory, it’s the fact that destroys most alcoholics and addicts who would rather be stubborn and do it their way rather than listen to advice that could save their life.

Each day we have the opportunity to listen to our higher power, to our supports, and even our gut. The longer we implement our program of recovery into our daily lives, the more we are able to listen and take suggestions. Usually we learn in the beginning of journey by the amount of pain we can handle, and as time goes on, it doesn’t take much pain for us to listen closely and follow what needs to be done rather then what we want to be done.

I find that I much happier and less drama filled when I shut my mouth and open my ears to listen.

Usually I am seeking an answer to a question that has been baffling me and if I am quiet long enough, I can hear what I need to hear.

Through meditation I also learn to listen. I listen to my heart and breath and I know that serenity is not too far behind. I end up have a clearer view on the world and my life as a result. Listening is one of the best ways to achieve this kind of peace.

Take the time to listen today and see if it changes the way you think and act for the better.
